HOT HANDLE INDICATOR
For my junior design project I worked with a group of five classmates to develop a device that measures the temperature of a pot handle and turns on an LED to indicate that the handle is unsafe to touch.
We designed a simple circuit that uses a thermistor that increases resistance based on temperature and a BJT that with the base lead connected to the thermistor and the emitter lead connected to an LED that turns on at a specific temperature and increases in brightness as temperature continues to increase.
We also made our own silicon housing for the circuit board using a 3-D printed mold. The housing has a silicon strap that holds the device on the handle of a pot. The strap is flexible and allows the user to easily put the device on any metal pot handle and remove it when not in use.
